  1. Novell Acquires International Business Software
  2. Distributed Computing Technology to Enhance Novell Offerings

  4. PROVO, Utah -- April 6, 1992 -- Novell (NASDAQ:  NOVL) today announced the
  5. acquisition of International Business Software, Ltd., developer of DataClub
  6. distributed computing technology which allows Apple Macintosh computer
  7. users to share information and services on a network without needing to
  8. know where the resources reside.

  10. Novell exchanged $5.2 million cash for the outstanding shares of
  11. International Business Software.  IBS is headquartered in Sunnyvale,
  12. California.

  14. "IBS has developed excellent distributed file technology which can be
  15. incorporated into simpler networking solutions for end users," said Darrell
  16. Miller, executive vice president of Novell.  "We think the IBS expertise
  17. will further strengthen Novell's ability to provide distributed computing
  18. products our customers need."

  21. network computing industry," said Rod MacGregor, president of International
  22. Business Software.  "We look forward to combining our distributed computing
  23. expertise with Novell's to extend virtual server benefits to other
  24. environments supported by NetWare."

  26. Current IBS products are AppleTalk Filing Protocol-compatible distributed
  27. file systems for Macintosh computers.  DataClub Classic combines the
  28. economy of a peer-to-peer network with the simplicity of a dedicated server
  29. network  for customers with small workgroups.  With this technology
  30. computer users see and access a single "virtual file server" that utilizes
  31. disk space from the many networked computers within a peer-to-peer
  32. environment.  This technology allows network users to access information
  33. and services without knowing where on the network they reside, and provides
  34. the benefits of a dedicated server without the hardware expense.

  36. DataClub Elite extends the scope of the virtual server to include one or
  37. more dedicated servers. According to recent benchmark comparisons conducted
  38. by computer trade press, DataClub Elite is the most powerful Macintosh
  39. server software for networks connecting large numbers of users who need
  40. increased performance and ease of administration.

  42. DataClub products are currently available through the IBS distribution
  43. channels.  Novell will begin immediately to sell DataClub products through
  44. its distribution channels worldwide.
